The rate of duty payable depends on the type of goods, whether you're importing or exporting, where the goods are deemed to have come from - the 'originating' country - and their destination.
At the beginning of 2024, the UK has over 70 Trade Preference Agreements in place including the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement treaty which covers all UK trade with the European Union as well as the most recent Trade Preference Agreements with Australia and New Zealand.
If you’re importing or exporting under preference, it’s essential that you keep up to date with developments in the UK and the originating or destination country.
