Session 2: Exploring bias in data sets: is my car insurance racist?
15.00 Close What We Leak Online: Safeguarding Your Business from Cyber Threats Businesses invest large amounts of money and time in ensuring that they are protected from criminals online. The information shared on company websites, as well as the online behaviour of your employees can either fortify your business or expose it to significant risks.
This session delves into the seemingly innocuous actions that can lead to severe security breaches. Employees engage in "typical" behaviours such as sharing work-related information on social media, using personal devices for work tasks, oversharing personal information, and clicking on suspicious links. While these actions may seem harmless, they open the door to bad actors who are constantly on the lookout for vulnerabilities.
Session content
Participants will explore ways to implement robust security protocols, foster a culture of cybersecurity awareness, and empower their employees to become the first line of defence against cyber threats.
Join us to understand the hidden dangers of everyday online activities and discover how to protect your business from becoming the next victim of a cyber-attack.
Exploring bias in data sets: is my car insurance racist?
This workshop explores how bias can be found in data even in cases where we believe we are treating others with equity. oving beyond the usual ethical discussions of data protection, we examine how perspectives from subjects such as history, politics and sociology can spread new light on how human prejudices creep into seemingly neutral data sets and ask what we can do to mitigate these unexpected biases and ensure fair treatment of others.
This workshop is part of the Lancashire Cyber Ecosystem Support Programme that is being supported through the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
