Our Business Support Spotlight series highlights the wealth of support listed on Boost’s Support Hub and available to Lancashire businesses. Today’s spotlight shines on Boost's Bespoke Programme.

How do you help Lancashire businesses?

Boost Bespoke is a fully funded programme designed to provide professional help and support to Lancashire based businesses. The programme consists of one-to-one coaching with a highly qualified and experienced member of our coaching team which aims to focus on the issues identified in the assessment and diagnostic stage of the process. As the programme name suggests, all of our support is very much client-led and tailored to the needs of the business. It can be more general, strategic help, or highly focused on a particular area such as sales, marketing or leadership and management. Coaching is further complemented by workshops, master classes and peer networking activities, all designed to help businesses grow and reach their full potential

Why do Lancashire businesses need your support?

In the last year we have seen a turbulent and ever-changing business landscape. Our aim is to help businesses survive and grow through the development and implementation of strategies and plans which help the company adapt and thrive. Our coaches provide a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ through which to view a business. When the day-to-day challenges so often prevent senior management teams from taking a more strategic view, this is where the coach can help them take a step back, reassess and create a more robust plan for the future. This is a period of constant change and our programme is designed to build resilience and help identify new opportunities.

How are you helping Lancashire businesses overcome the economic challenges of coronavirus?

There are many examples where, through the involvement of one of our coaches, businesses have developed new ways of working, implemented new processes and introduced new products and services. This has helped them to build a stronger foundation for future, sustainable growth. There are also many cases where we have helped business owners to navigate their way through the maze of financial support being offered, providing some with a much-needed lifeline to help them survive. Each business and each sector have their own unique and specific challenges and that is why tailored support is of most value.

What are the other key challenges for Lancashire businesses at the moment?

One of the most common challenges is the inability to plan. With trading restrictions that have affected so many sectors, along with national lockdowns and changing customer behaviour, the ability to plan for the future is arguably one of the key challenges faced by many. Nobody likes uncertainty, and the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on businesses has been unpredictable and unprecedented. This, combined with the challenges faced by many as a result of changes resulting from EU-Exit has created a once in a lifetime combination of issues which we are helping Lancashire based businesses overcome.

What’s the future for the Lancashire economy?

Fundamentally, Lancashire’s economy is incredibly diverse and robust – and this will see it bounce back faster and stronger. There are few other regions of the country where such a wide range of business activities can be seen, from advanced engineering and manufacturing, through to the visitor economy and leisure sectors. This combination of both service and goods-based businesses certainly helps the local economy to weather the storm better and the fact that so many local businesses have cooperated and collaborated in the last year is a testament to the spirit among Lancashire’s business owners.
