A growth conversation with ... Shaun Bennett

high_growth 2

Our latest growth conversation is with Shaun Bennett. Shaun is the owner of Blackpool-based Links Signs and Graphics, a fast growing family firm that specialises in printed signage, banners, posters and exhibition materials.

The company, founded in 2007, counts the Football Pools, Merlin Entertainments, Blackpool Zoo and Winter Gardens among its illustrious clients. It has recently benefited from the Growth Accelerator programme which assists high-growth businesses and is being delivered by Boost Business Lancashire.

What is the biggest challenge you faced when growing your business and how did you overcome this?

The biggest challenge was sticking to what I believed in and having the confidence to deliver on all the values I felt would benefit my clients.

What qualities must a growing business owner possess to be successful?

They must be customer and service driven. There is an old cliché in football that you are ‘only as good as your last game’. In business you have to remember that you are only ‘as good as your last job’. What top tip would you give to a business owner embarking on a growth plan? There is no point in setting targets that simply cannot be achieved as this undermines confidence. Your plan should convey steady, structured and well thought out growth.

Which entrepreneur do you admire and why?

I admire the three employers that I had before setting up my own business, all very different personalities but all three with great attributes.

Why is Lancashire a great place to grow a business?

From our base in Blackpool we have a 25 to 30 mile radius where the opportunities for business growth are extensive, plus great transport links for targeting work further afield.

Why are you supporting Boost Business Lancashire?

I have had a lot of support through external agencies while developing and growing the business over the past six years and believe that SMEs should seek support where required. If I can advise others on the use of such support, I’m helping to return some of the excellent support I received.
