Boost Q&A: Ian Worthington, GymWolfPT

Ian Worhtington Gym Wolfe

GymWolfPT provides corporate fitness plans including customised workout plans, training advice and nutritional tips to high-end business clients. Founder Ian Worthington joined Boost's Flying Start programme in 2019 and also received several one-to-one coaching sessions from a dedicated Boost advisor. Ian shares his thoughts with Boost on leading a business in Lancashire and advice for new entrepreneurs.

What support did you receive from Boost and how has it helped you and your business?

Through Boost I attended a number of great workshops, had 1-2-1 mentoring from the superb Lateef Badat, and also met my current website designer (Matthew Dobson). This combination has been a great help in moving my business and the GymWolfPT brand forward.

What piece of advice stood out the most during your Boost support?

That “You can’t be an expert in every field – you need to surround yourself with good people who are experts and can help you”. Being very ‘hands on’ with my business it’s still advice that needs work and reinforcement, but I know it to be correct!

Who has been your biggest business inspiration and why?

There are numerous, I could literally list hundreds of people who have helped, supported and advised me on my GymWolfPT business journey so far. But, I’m going to list some . . . From an inspiration perspective my early mentors were people like Tony Robbins and Bob Proctor. In recent years I have had great mentors and assistance from Mike Wilson, Andy Henderson, Darren Neill, Lateef Badat and Gordie Smyth to name but a few.

What motivates you in business and why?

Making a difference – to those I work with, my family and those who follow me across my various platforms. There is no better feeling than helping someone transform their body, mind and potentially life.

How do you like to start your working day?

As a fitness professional, I’m sure you’d expect my morning routine to start with a workout - and it most certainly does! While I know that ‘early morning’ starts aren’t for everyone, they have been a big part of my working day for over 20 years. I wake at 5.15am, meditate before hitting the gym. I spend 20 minutes ‘warming up’ whilst multi-tasking on emails/social media posts. I then workout for 45 minutes followed by a sauna and 5-minute cold shower. I class this as the ‘start of my working day’ as it is sets me up for a positive day in numerous ways.

Why is Lancashire a great location for a business?

As a proud Prestonian and Lancashire resident, I have witnessed first-hand the great array of people, talent and diversity Lancashire has to offer. If you are looking to start a business or move your business, Lancashire is a great place to be.

What would you say to someone who is considering using Boost?

As the Nike saying goes, ‘Just Do It!’. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by contacting Boost and finding out what relevant support, services and assistance they may have available to you. All my dealings with Boost have been positive and productive.

What is your advice for anyone looking to grow a business?

Don’t confuse being ‘busy’ with being ‘efficient’. Find out what actions will help build your business and focus intensely on them. Get rid of – or outsource – the minor tasks that bring little or no benefit to your business.

Would you like to see your business grow? So would we. To speak to someone from the Growth Hub about business support, contact Boost online or call 0800 488 0057.
