Boost Q&A: Paul Preston, BARE Capital

Paul Preston Bare Capital

Paul Preston and his business partner Sylwester Noga have worked in partnership for over 15 years. In 2021, they co-founded BARE Capital, with the core mission to transform and preserve culturally significant buildings. They are passionate about leaving behind a legacy for future generations and restoring properties with social impact and sustainability as the key focus.

Paul joined Boost's Scale to Thrive programme in early 2024 to help grow his business network. Here, Paul shares his business inspirations, discusses the Boost support he received, and why Lancashire is a great place to do business.

Why did you contact Boost?

We were seeking opportunities to engage with wider local authority networks and establish relationships with property owners, particularly in the public sector in areas of regeneration at a pivotal stage in our growth journey.

What support did you receive from Boost and how has it helped you and your business?

Boost provided valuable connections and a strong peer network, helping us to gain perspective on our business journey. It has helped us to define our brand and offering and to refine our approach to property restoration.

What piece of advice stood out the most during your Boost support?

“Focus on partnerships that align with your mission” resonated with us, reinforcing our commitment to creating sustainable, socially impactful transformations.

What motivates you in business and why?

Our mission to restore historically significant properties for future generations really motivates us, as we aim to leave a meaningful and sustainable impact on the towns and cities in which we work.

What are your growth plans for the next three years?

We plan to expand our portfolio of restoration projects, deepen community partnerships, and champion sustainability across the North West. In addition to acquiring further projects we also hope to establish ourselves as a key point of contact for heritage property regeneration and development within the region.

How do you like to start your working day?

Most mornings I can be found walking the dog before I start my day’s work. With an office in Chorley we are very fortunate to have a number of beautiful parks on our doorstep. A long walk and fresh air is the best way to prepare for a busy day ahead.

Why is Lancashire a great location for a business?

Lancashire’s rich heritage, supportive business ecosystem, and vibrant communities make it the perfect base for transformative projects. It is an area of strong growth and opportunity.

What would you say to someone who is considering using Boost?

Boost is a valuable partner in scaling your business, offering insights, support, and access to a wealth of local opportunities. As a business owner is can be very useful to have access to a peer network and professional support which isn’t always available when starting out.

What is your advice for anyone looking to grow a business?

Stay true to your mission, focus on your areas of expertise, embrace partnerships, and deliver value that has a long-term impact.
